Preggo Life: Doing my Second Glucose Tolerance Test (GTT) - Week 26

The nasty glucose concoction I had to drink

Taking selfies in the bathroom

Written on June 1st

Just finished drinking that nasty glucose drink!!!

It’s 9:21am and I’m sitting at my hospital’s pathology waiting room.

I filmed myself drinking it thinking I could chug the whole thing but I had to take a break in between lol

It was so grosssss.

During the chug, it was okay but afterwards… I do not feel well!

Also, you have to fast 10-12 hours beforehand but I decided it was a good idea to fast for 14 hours before!!!! AWFUL.

I was STARVING around 9pm last night and was complaining to Slam how hungry I was lol (we stopped eating dinner around 6:30pm - we had El Jannah, sooooo good!)

Technically I could have eaten until 10pm and then fasted after cause my test was at 8:45am the next morning but I decided to not eat. Ahem, BAD IDEA. Lol.

Tip for those doing it… EAT UNTIL YOU ACTUALLY NEED TO STOP.

Because preggo hunger is so different from regular human hungry.. you get MAD AND HANGRY AND all I was thinking about last night was FOOODDDDD.

And thinking whether my baby was starving as well (jk, it’s all me.. I’m the main hangry one here).

ANYWAY…

The crappy thing about being in this waiting room is that the reception in here is SO BAD.

I’m currently typing this on my Notes app on my Mac.

Connected to no internet!

I have to SMS Slam for updates because WhatsApp doesn’t work lol

Like there’s no network to send the messages.

Not only did I have to do the GTT today, but I also had to do a bunch of other blood tests like testing out my Vitamin D levels and other stuff.

I have been taking Vitamin D tablets everyday (well… most days!) so hopefully those help!?!?!

If I’m low on vitamin D again, then I’m blaming cold and dreary Melbourne for that!!!

Also, if I get GD … then damn. I’ll have to adjust a lot of the things I eat!

Definitely a lifestyle change at that point.

I’m mentally prepared for it… or am I?????

I do have family members who have diabetes but I’m not sure if that relates to gestational diabetes… I think it does!

So yeeeessss.

All right, I’m going to head out now. Ta ta!

Okay, back at it!

The difference between my first GTT experience and my second is that there are more patients coming in and out:

  • A dad and his boy needing to get blood tests done for his little one but the staff members said they aren’t able to do a certain test for them on the weekend so they went home

  • At least 3 other preggo people

  • An older lady and her adult daughter - speaking another language - maybe Greek

  • Older people getting their blood tested (at least 3 different people)

I brought head phones this time around and am currently listening to Stray Kids.

I also just took a little 5 minute nap while sitting in this waiting room… I’m soooo bored and tired lol

10:40am - OMG I’m soooo bored!!!! The waiting room got so full, I just left and I’ll return maybe around 10:55am for my next blood test.

I texted Slam and told him I’ll be done around 11:10/11:20am so he can come pick me up then.

We haven’t decided on what to eat yet but I know I want to eat a LOT of food!!!!!!!!!

I’m SO HUNGRY.

I kept falling in and out of sleep.

There’s literally nothing to do.

I should really start a business or something buahahahhaa

I quit my other business so now it’s time to start another thing!

Other random thoughts:

  • My eczema is flaring up on my right hand and it hurts to do things

Oh, yay! I did my last blood test at 11:00am and now I can finally go home!

Slam is now on his way to pick me up and we can finally go out to eat - YAYYYY!

Now we wait until the results come back.

Wish me good luck!!

xoxo, knd.
